For fun

Project for fun to satisfy a curiosity or fill a need.

Cost of public radio: Who pays the bill, and how much should each listener contribute?

For a little break from the abnorm, I thought I would post about KAMU 90.9, one of our two, local listener supported public radio stations (the other being KEOS 89.1), and where our donations go.  Of course giving is necessary, but why, and how much is reasonable/expected?

Great software, support, sense of humor, and a healthy business to boot!

Back when I used to work support as a student worker, I enjoyed the clients who took the time to show appreciation for my help and time; I also understood those that were always in a grumpy mood or were too haughty to consider me more than "computer guy."  As a client, I always take the time to put out an extra "thanks," because I can appreciate what support goes through.  Recently, my silliness got the better of me on a support thread, but FreshBooks support bested me!

My favorite violin etude 17. Allegro 10155

I have no idea what etude this is, but it's a fun, hoppety scale for octaves, intervals, and smooth shifting between them all. It could be Dont, but don't hold me to it ;)

It's really copyrighted, I'm sure, but please if someone can identify it (see attached PDF), having it here will certainly help to that end.

Oh, and while I'm at it, check out this Encyclopedia of the Violin.

Dominic and I paint a huge painting together

Senele gave me a HUGE canvas for my birthday. Having him help me gesso it wasn't a really great idea, but we both enjoyed painting on it together!

ScanLife: Barcodes for everyday cell phone linking!

)

I was blown away by the simplicity of ScanLife.com. Create a free, personal account, download the software, and you can make your own clicky little barcodes, too!

I guess the social networking enthusiast might plaster his neighborhood with wall-sized printouts of these and some secret message.. I wonder what you could come up with?

Renoir - Chagall - Motekaitis

Quick post about a recent painting.. This is the "Luncheon of the Boating Party" by Renoir done in a few of the styles of Marc Chagall.  In my in-progress photos below, you can see my studies: first a pencil sketch of the Renoir, next a pencil sketch of the Chagall characters of it, finally a pencil sketch outline on the canvas itself..

DDB - a Drupal DDB Builder for building distributions on the fly

Ok, this is an unfair cross-post, but it's my cross-post, so comment where you will.. Either way, you'll have to wade through the copious collection of spam comments before I see it and approve...  What's this about captcha?

Here's what I posted on lullabot after listening to a great podcast:

Because all good projects need a name, I would start there: DDB ("Drupal DDB Builder").

Milo's Baptism

Ok folks.. This didn't go down as planned, but you can sort of join Milo in a technological journey of live streaming during his baptism (in fact, the priest didn't confiscate my cell phone!). Flash player required (but you probably have it).

Above, there should be a video player, and you should see either Milo's baptism in action or a splash title screen. If you see something completely random, then the streaming/playing service has a hiccup (but you can easily visit the archives in the provided thumbnails at the end of the clip-- hopefully they're my shows and not another user's again!! :))
